For nearly 31 years, participants have been sailing, powerboating, and paddling in communities throughout the country in support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Individuals form fundraising teams that help galvanize relationships between friends, family and business contacts. The team that raises the most in their community receives the coveted Leukemia Cup. Events take place in a number of different ways, but all help to fund life-saving research and treatment for blood cancers. Over $70 million has been raised since the first Leukemia Cup in 1988. When Steve Attaway, a friend who Ken sailed with, was diagnosed with cancer, it really hit home and became much more than just a fun race. We have since become involved not only in the racing, but in the fundraising aspect as well. We have had three more friends diagnosed with leukemia over the past several years, which has made the need for the funding provided by The Leukemia Cup Regatta all the more relevant to us.
